Homebrew pipe organ

Matthias Wandel build an incredible pipe organ, check out the story, sound samples and the build photos, he writes - "With my nonexistent music abilities, and my limited budget, I couldn't justify buying myself a little Casio synthesizer or something like that. The only way I could justify owning a musical instrument was if I actually BUILT it. I am very fortunate that my dad has a very large and wonderful woodworking shop. When I went home for christmas that year, I started experimenting with pipes. That christmas was particularly busy for me, as I also built two tables, because the house I was renting with friends was a little bit under-furnished." [via] - Link.

Raphi:
I saw the meticulous wood work. My father, the late R E Giesbrecht, NW physician and
hobbiest built a full size church organ in our nearly 3 story house when I was a kid. It took him
around 20 years to slowly “carve” it out. He wasn’t “great” at playing it, but put in a great deal
of detail. It would take some effort to obtain photos, but I’m sure there are many.
It was dismantled and parts quickly sold after his passing. It was very loud…on Xmas,
(or any other day) one could hear it behind the walls of our large house on the hill from 200
feet away…and no neighbor complaints! The house since has been gutted remodeled and sold
too. I wish ther was a way to post the story of the making of an organ, that in the end, was playing
itself via a midi system, not fine tuned, but…damn…my father was eccentric to go so far.
R E Giesbrecht had a stroke 6 years ago, passed 4 years ago the day after Xmas, leaving
his wife of 40 years and 3 sons behind. We all don’t talk much about the organ, as my father was
very reclusive and it wasn’t a shared enthusiasm with his sons.
My name is Andrew. Call or leave a messge..(503) 277 9419
Your work looks very nice, curious about the sound…glad to see it doesn’t weigh 5 tons
