AVR servo control

Productpic
Here’s a quick and simple way to control servos with an AVR microcontroller, stiant04 writes -

This code is developed for the ATmega16 on tha AVR-stk500 trainer and can only control two servos with a ten step resolution (but this can all easily be changed). It is ment to show newbies (like me) how they can make a C program that controls RC servos…

(Remeber that RC servoes needs a 1-2 millisecond high pulse at 50Hz)

PORTA=switches , 0=S1++,1=S1center,2=S1– , 3=S2++,4=S2center,5=S2–
PORTB=Leds ,shows ten times the ms value(1-2ms -> 10-20 bin) for servo1
PORTC=Servo signal , PC0 & PC1

Just push a button to move your servos.
The servo vil return to center position when max or min value is reached.(sorry that most comments are in norwegian)
Enjoy!

The BlackJack storage solution

The BlackJack storage solution

I love my BlackJack and the first thing I bought after I refinanced my house to pay for the bloody thing was an extended battery. The battery door was far better then the original because it created a flat surface for my sticky pads. The next thing I bought was a handful of 1 GB micro SD cards to store movies and music on. I didn’t like carrying them around in my pocket and kept misplacing them. One day I was looking at the battery door and thought about all the "dead space" in the top half of it. Then it hit me. Put the storage cards in the battery door, and it turns out it’s a lot easier then I thought.

Simple requirements

All you need is a razor knife and a small pair of pliers.

Another DIY Micro-Macro Lens

Another DIY Micro-Macro Lens

While experimenting with a variety of "other-purpose" lenses. I discovered I had the makings of a really amazing micro lens in my telescope eyepiece collection. While you may not already have the eyepiece described, you can buy one cheap. I have seen them on eBay for $10.

The following Instructable shows how to create an adaptable mount for this eyepiece (or any 1.25" eyepiece for that matter) on ANY digital camera. My total financial investment, including the eyepiece, is $25. I could have bought a ready-made adapter for a mere $200. That’s more than I bought the camera for on eBay.

And if that is not all, this Instructable requires no special tools, like laser cutters, oscilloscopes, SLA rapid prototype mac…

Creating Complex Spraypaint Stencils by Hand

Creating Complex Spraypaint Stencils by Hand

These instructions cover each step in creating complex multi-layer stencils from any source image. There are numerous great stencil tutorials on the web and here on instructables, and there’s no right way to make a stencil. I’ve been working with stencils for many years now, have tried about every trick out there, and have arrived at a technique that really works for me, and I walk you through it in great detail in these instructions. The technique described here involves a lot more pre-planning and finesse, so it’s probably not best for an artist looking to just bust something out quickly, but if you’re looking to push your stencil technique to the next level I’m hoping it will help you out. The Villanizer custom guitar

Ggggtwo
Thunder Eagle guitars made a fun looking guitar from copper pipes and gears -

The Villanizer started life as a Rhoads Jackson V. It’s not every day you take a band saw to a guitar that plays as well as this thing does. However, I had no distinct plan other then doing a mechanical look to it. But I had more of a Sci-Fi / Blade Runner thematic in mind at that moment.

After cutting, a spacer was cut and installed to join the two pieces of the body. Knowing damned well that wouldnt be a strong enough of a join for just about any player, the steampunk look hit me, and I went on to installing the copper pipe, and soldering the joints. You just cant have steam power without a gauge, so I cannibalized an old oil gauge and made a custom face in it with my name and a real complex readout.

Gears. Man I hacked more gears together then I knew what to do with, and inlaid them into a cut plexi frame that was then screwed into the body…

How To: Install a RAID on your MacBook Pro

raid0mbp.jpg

Mac user Eric Cheng installed a second hard drive in his MacBook Pro and created a striped RAID with it and the existing drive. He says:

This machine is really much faster now. I just booted up Windows XP in Parallels, and it didn’t do the usual “take the computer down for a bit” routine during XP startup. It just booted, and was fast immediately after boot, as it is on my Mac Pro. Normally, the XP load process in Parallels slows my entire machine down as it struggles to pull data from the disk.

For the acronym-allergic, a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks offers faster data throughput and reliability. Eric’s got Xbench testing results to prove the performance increase, though the already-hot laptop is even hotter now with the dual drive setup.

Whip-Style Convection Vaporizer

Whip-Style Convection Vaporizer

This is my homemade Vaporizer. I mostly vaporize herbal mixtures, but it would work as well for tobacco. It uses convection (only hot air touches the plant material) which makes a cleaner vapor than induction (where the heat source touches the plant material). Some scientific evidence suggests that vaporization puts fewer carcinogens in a vaporizers (the person doing the vaporizing lungs. Some evidence suggests that it doesn’t make any difference. I think it tastes cleaner, and probably isn’t any worse than smoking. Convection vaporization is a feeling which is subjectively distinct from smoking or the other sort of vaporization.

WARNINGS:

This vaporizer is a fire hazard. And it’s not simple to use. It’s ch…
