Hack a Female USB Port to a Motorola Phone Charger

I needed a wall charger for my iPod, but I didnt want to fork over 30 bucks for the Apple wall charger. I had a extra Motorola USB charger, which would work nicely except it had a miniusb jack at the end. I looked for a mini usb to regular usb converter but came up empty. The only option left was to take the charger under the knife.

This Instructable will show you how to take a USB Motorola Phone Charger and stick a female usb charger for charging USB devices, which in this case is an iPod.

WARNING: After this is done you will no longer be able to charge your RAZR(and probably other motorola models) phone, since a special circuit is needed to get the phone into charge mode. I’ll update this instructable as soon as I fix the issue.

USB UPS

This is for supplying power to a USB device even while it is unplugged from the host computer.

For example, it could be used to power a host of desktop toys which are programmed by a computer via the usb port, and then operates independently, while being still powered by the usb port.

This will allow the device to dispense with internal batteries, and therefore be of simple design.

The single cell Li-ion charger is detailed in this instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/EMAV8NGTLXEV0G2TSC/

I have an idea of combining my USB hub, http://www.instructables.com/id/EEXHOBCAOEEUR4U24X/ , with this to have a battery powered four port UPS USB hub.

With a tweety bird theme, of course.

This used to be another similiar post to this one, but that seems to have disappeared.

USB Spy shirt

I always thought it would be cool to have a button camera on my shirt so I could secretly record whatever I wanted to. I mean the possibilities are endless: gathering evidence, blackmail, private investigation, blackmail, research, blackmail.

Unfortunately, some of those little cameras cost up to $300. So whats a broke engineering student to do, you ask? Why not whip something up from some of the stuff I already have.

USB-Powered Apple

Well, the holiday season is quickly encroaching upon our otherwise uneventful and pleasant existences. Soon most of us will have to sit through many long meals with our family (or someone else’s) and try to keep our sanity. I don’t know about you, but during this time of year I could use some stress relief.

To keep with spirit of the season I made this USB-Powered Apple. It is really quite a simple device. It vibrates when a person grabs for it and does not vibrate when a person does not. Unlike your family, this apple is predictable and may relieve stress.

how to repair a worn out clicker on an optical mouse

After five years in a university computer lab, this mouse wouldn’t respond to clicks very well, but after this two minute repair job, it’s as sharp as it’s first day!

All you need is a bad clicky mouse, like the one pictured, a phillips screwdriver, and a nail file.
