I LOVE to crochet! With winter still in full force, I thought it would be a fun DIY project to crochet some boot cuffs. Not only are they super cute and stylish, but they help keep your legs warm when you’re wearing boots. These crochet boot cuffs are super easy to make, so let’s dive right in!
Crochet Boot Cuff Supplies
- Crochet hook
- 2 matching buttons
Step 1. Make a foundation chain
A foundation chain is basically the starter for your boot cuff. Click here to learn how to crochet a foundation chain. For each boot cuff, you will want to make the foundation chains about 40 stitches long, or whatever length makes the foundation chain fit snugly around your calf.
Step 2. Connect the ends of the foundation chain
Using a slip stitch, connect the two ends of the foundation chain to form a circle. Make sure when you do this, there are no twists in the foundation chain.
Step 3. Work your way around the circle with a single crochet
In this pattern I worked around the circle 6 times using the single crochet only in the top 1 loop of yarn or back loop. This will leave a horizontal bar exposed on the fabric. This will be the top of the boot cuff. After 6 or more rounds of this I started looping in the top 2 loops/ both the front and back. Continue single crochet in the pattern until the boot cuff is 4 inches long.
Step 4. Tie and cut off yarn
This next step is easy. Tie off the yarn once you have finished the 6 loops around the cuff. Cut the end of the tie off, leaving about 1 inch of thread still hanging free. Weave the yarn in the boot cuff so that the loops don’t unravel.
Step 5. Sew on the buttons
Thread your needle through the upper wall of the boot cuff. Sew the buttons to the top of the boot cuff, about 2 or 3 rows down.
There you go! No matter the season, these cute boot cuffs will certainly turn heads. This DIY crochet project is just one of many crochet projects that I have to offer, so be sure to check out some of my other ideas!
